HP Envy X360 vs HP Pavilion X360: A Detailed Review

Design, Display, Build Quality

Weighing at 4.11 pounds (4.71 with power brick), the HP Envy X360 is considered to be a heavier and bulkier laptop with its 15-inch panel with 1920×1080p resolution screen. This means, its portability is a bit comprised but it doesn’t change the fact that this laptop is simple yet elegant in its design and structure. Although, there ain’t any gold trim or gem-cut pattern, but you’ll still be getting edge-to-edge display glass and sturdy aluminum chassis. The display is powered with a 100-percent sRGB color support, whereas the peak brightness of 400 nits are enough for perfect outdoor use even under bright sunlight.

At 3.55 pounds, HP Pavilion X360 feels a bit heavier in your hands after emerging from the box, that could be an issue while you’re traveling with it. However, since this laptop is a 360-degree convertible, so while supporting its own weight it will flip smoothly from the clamshell back into the tent mode. There is a generic natural silver exterior, alongside a dark ash keyboard with a silver band running through the edges, making this laptop a beauty of its own. The unobtrusive grille above the keyboard, helps in venting warm air. The 14-inch display is powered with a 1920×1080p resolution, that supports a peak brightness of 250 nits – sufficient for indoor work but not for outdoor use.

Performance, Working, Battery Life

The HP Envy X360 is powered with AMD Ryzen 7 5700U CPU, supported by an 11th-gen Core i7 processor, and loaded with 16GB of RAM – that promotes optimal performance, efficiency, and speed. The availability of whooping 512GB of storage, allows you to have a thrill of multiple games, movies, songs, and many more. The integrated Radeon graphics are ideal for handling lightweight 3D gaming.

This laptop was tested for various performance benchmarks as compared to other similar laptops, and interestingly the results were as follows:

  • With a score of 5337, the Envy X360 maintained a slight edge over other laptops having Intel’s 11th-gen Core i7 processors.
  • In the productivity test, the Ryzen 7 CPU from Envy X360 is comprehensively edging out many intel machines.
  • Although, Envy 360 edged out other laptops with a score of 3,577 in the video editing section. But got a subpar score against HP’s Intel-powered Spectre X360 who scored 4769.
  • The availability of Ryzen’s eight-core processor in Envy X360, makes it remarkably quick in encoding large video files. Interestingly, it completed the task in 26 minutes and 15 seconds, which is 10 minutes quicker than other laptops having Intel Core i7 processors.
  • In a multi-threaded test, the Envy 360 works optimally; however, its single-threaded performance is just average.
  • In gaming, the Envy X360’s integrated Radeon is overpowered by the laptops having Intel Xe graphics. Death Stranding was hardly playable at 720p graphics on lower settings, while Fortnite at 60fps was running smoothly on 1080p graphics with medium settings.
  • Battery life is just average, because it lasted for only 10 hours in a looping video run test. On a workday, it’s like having your chunks of workload on a regular top-up with battery power.

The HP Pavilion X360 is powered with the Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor, and supported with powerful RAM of 8GB DDR4-3200 – that contributes to faster and responsive execution of your daily tasks. The presence of Intel UHD integrated graphics, enhances the realistic experience of a theatre-like joy during your entertainment experience. A 256GB NVMe solid-state drive is a perfect answer to all those annoying storage problems, ultimately letting you to enjoy multiple games, movies, songs, and other daily programmable tasks.

  • This laptop wastested for various performance benchmarks as compared to other similar laptops, and interestingly the results were as follows:
  • With a score of over 2000, which is considered to be a good one for the PCMark 8 Work test. The Pavilion X360 is doing fine in tasks like Microsoft Office, Google docs, and Web Browsing.
  • Pavilion X360 with its Core i5-1035G1, performs just acceptable scores on the R15 test. The intense tasks like photo manipulation, video editing, and gaming are tested, where Pavilion X360 falls behind other laptops having the same processor.
  • In perspective of graphics, the UHD 620 display performs averagely during a gaming test.
  • Adobe Photoshop was also tested for image editing, which is known to put pressure on the RAM, CPU and storage subsystem of the laptop. While HP took a few seconds longer for Photoshop functioning as compared to other laptops, its GPU still accelerated in applying filters.
  • Battery life is determined through a loop video test where a short film of 720p is played with 50% brightness and 100% volume. Ultimately, the 100% charging got finished in 12 hours and 11 minutes, which can get you a full-day of work and evening with Netflix or other entertainment.

Keyboard, Typing and Trackpad

Typing is an absolute pleasure on HP Envy X360 that is featured with a wonderful backlit keyboard. Subsequently, a satisfactory tactile bump would be given by the keys, as you press them. Even if your fingernail touches the edge of the button, the typing result would perform accurately. Henceforth, allowing you to type your content, program a code, or surf the internet without any typing mistake. The backspace and spacebar keys are featured on a clicky side, whereas the main keys are pretty quiet. When it comes to Trackpad, you won’t be disappointed with Envy X360 as it features a super-smooth surface for a comfortable experience. The Trackpad also supports Precision Touchpad features of Microsoft, which allows three-finger swipes for multitasking or desktop exposure.

Typing experience just gets easier, safer, and smarter with HP Pavilion X360, which offers satisfactory button presses with tactile bumps. However, the keyboard seems a bit shallow that may not provide enough flexibility to the fingers of those who have to work all-day. Ultimately, may cause fatigue to their fingers and hands. Just like the Trackpads of all premium laptops, Pavilion X360 is also featured with a super-smooth surface. It also supports Precision Touchpad features from Microsoft, which allows three-finger swipes for multitasking or desktop exposure.

Webcam and Audio

With a 720p webcam, the HP Envy X360 is an ideal solution for video chats on Zoom, Google Meet, and Skype. Whether you’re taking classes from home, or videoconferencing with your friends, relatives, or colleagues – the clarity of the video is just like a reality. Important thing is, Envy X360 also prioritizes your security and privacy through its convenient kill switch keys, both for microphone and camera. This means, with just a press of keys, your mic would automatically be muted and the webcam would be covered with a visible cover. For avoiding accidental muting, both of the keys have indicator lights. When it comes to the speakers of Envy X360, although they are packed with a decent punch, but the sound is not much crisp as it should have. However, both microphones offer loud and clear voices.

The HP Pavilion X360 also features a 720p webcam that offers clear video chats on Zoom, Google Meet, and Skype. Important thing is, the outstanding color fidelity of the camera that offers great color accuracy and balance. So, if you’re more of a social guy with a lot of video chats, images, short videos, etc; you’re definitely going to like this laptop. When it comes to the sound system, the speakers are thin and very unpleasant for music and audio. The microphone possesses noise cancellation support, so you’re going to receive a loud and clear voice. You can use Bang & Olufsen utility through an equalizer to tone the speakers, but since it does not really help, so your best bet is to enhance the bass.

Apps and Utilities

The loaded software on the HP Envy X360 is the part of Windows experience. There are plenty of apps that you could give a try, including HP support assistant, Dropbox, Amazon, Netflix, Spotify. The McAfee antivirus software is preloaded that is a protection against all threats and viruses. There is availability of games, as well as trial-based subscriptions. The utilities like Microsoft store and Windows Update allows you to keep your laptop updated and full of pleasure. There is also a fingerprint reader, including a facility of touchscreen which could also flip into a tablet mode.

The HP Pavilion X360 is available with plenty of apps that you could try. The app on the taskbar acts as a pathway to HP support assistant and other offers like, free games from WildTangent, one month trial of Microsoft 365, and apps like Dropbox, Amazon, Netflix, Spotify. You’ll also get a three-month subscription to the personal security of McAfee. Besides, there are also utilities like Microsoft Store, Windows Update, and Antivirus. There is also a cellular capability through a sim card slot

Conclusion

According to me, the ultimate winner of this iconic laptop rivalry is HP Envy X360. After all, Envy X360 is a better choice in all departments as compared to HP Pavilion X360. But this doesn’t mean you should not buy Pavilion X360. It totally depends on the levels of your usage. E.g, if you’re a heavy user with professional requirements like graphic designing, programming, heavy gaming, or any IT related software use which heavily impacts the processor – HP Envy X360 is a choice of perfection here. If you’re a normal user with light professional use or more like an entertainment enthusiast (Movies, Songs, TV Series, Light Gaming) – HP Pavilion X360 best suits you.

However, if budget isn’t a matter for you and even if you’re a light user then better go for HP Envy X360, because a better choice is always a perfect choice for a sustainable future
