MSI GS66 Stealth review

MSI GS66 Stealth

Our list of thin-and-light gaming laptops includes MSI’s Stealth line, and it’s for good cause. There is a lot to like about these devices, including their portability, their powerful hardware, and their long lifespan. The MSI GS66 Stealth is an example of this. In addition to its striking good aesthetics, the laptop has Nvidia’s latest 30-series GPUs and a 1440p display with a super-high refresh rate, making it even more powerful than its predecessors. You’ll also get a powerful Intel Core i7 processor for multitasking. In addition, the laptop is equipped with the largest battery that the TSA permits, enhancing its endurance even further.

Configurations and Pricing

The MSI GS66 Stealth sports a 2.6-GHz Intel Core i7-10750H processor, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB NVMe SSD, an Intel UHD Graphics GPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU with 6GB of VRAM, and a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080-pixel display with a 240Hz refresh rate and 3ms response rate.

Mid-tier variant costs $2,399 and comes with 32GB of RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, an Intel UHD Graphics GPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Max-Q GPU with 8GB of VRAM, and a 15.6″ 1920 x 1080-pixel display with a 300Hz refresh rate and 3ms reaction time.

Design of the MSI GS66

Everything is completely blacked out. Ebony sandblasted aluminum makes the Stealth seem like a must-have weapon in 007’s armory. Intricately textured black dragon insignia glimmers with a hint of glitter on the lid. In contrast to other gaming rigs, this one has more modest back vents, which is a welcome break from the supercar-inspired designs.

Stealth Security for the MSI GS66

In terms of security, the MSI GS66 Stealth has only an IR camera, which may be used for Windows Hello facial recognition login.

Ports on the MSI GS66 Stealth

MSI GS66 Stealth vs. MSI GE66 Raider, The MSI GS66 Stealth boasts a very large number of ports for such a little machine. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A connectors, a USB 3.2 Gen Type-C port, a Gigabit Ethernet input, and a headphone jack are all located on the right side. In addition to the Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port may be found on the left.

Display of the MSI GS66 Stealth

MSI GS66 Stealth vs. MSI GE66 Raider, It is one of the most recent gaming laptops with a 2560 x 1440p resolution and a refresh rate of 240 Hz, MSI GS66 Stealth. For gamers, high resolution and fast refresh rate appear to be a sweet spot –– and we expect to see more of this arrangement in the future (number of times a screen shows a new image every second). Beautiful views and seamless image rendering can be yours with a 3-millisecond response rate (the time it takes the panel to convert from one color to another), which can lead to more accurate shots when gaming

Stealth Audio from MSI GS66

The MSI GS66 Stealth’s palm rest has two tiny perforations on either side that pack quite a punch. With the help of Nahimic’s software, the Dynaudio 2-sided Duo speakers were no trouble filling my living and dining rooms with crisp, strong sound. Estelle’s “Stronger Than You” included a strong string section that transitioned into a jazzy, synthy keyboard and sharp percussion. Vocal range that blended between an alto and tenor dominated the performance.

Keyboard and Touchpad of the MSI GS66 Stealth Motherboard

Once you get acclimated to the MSI GS66 Stealth’s Chiclet keyboard, typing on it is an enjoyable experience. Although the keys are wide and well-spaced, they are a little too soft for my liking. It’s exactly the right amount of feedback to keep them comfy. On the 10fastfingers typing test, I was able to type 72 words per minute, which is somewhat faster than my usual 70 wpm.

Stealth Graphics for Gaming and Virtual Reality from MSI

MSI GS66 Stealth vs. MSI GE66 Raider, It’s a great leap forward. Nvidia’s RTX 3080-powered MSI GS66 Stealth is a slimline laptop that’s putting up some impressive figures versus the competition. With Nvidia Optimus technology, while you are not gaming, your system will switch to the integrated Intel UHD Graphics.

"Stealthy" Performance from the MSI GS66

It has an Intel Core i7-10870H processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD built in. When it comes to multitasking, this notebook is no slouch. With 40 more tabs open, I watched an episode of Lupin on Netflix while using a variety of other programs, including Twitch, YouTube, and Tweetdeck. It was no problem for the Stealth, and it didn’t slow down at all.

Battery Life on the MSI GS66 Stealth

For a long time, the Laptop Mag Battery test would only last an hour on my gaming laptops (continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness). Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for a system to clock in at five or six hours.

Such is the case with the MSI GS66 Stealth, which smashed the 4:48 premium gaming laptop average with a record of 6 hours and 27 minutes. The laptop features a 99.9WHr battery, the maximum allowed by the TSA on an airplane. It took 4:48 seconds to complete the Aorus 15G whereas the m15 R4 took 4:01 seconds and the Blade 15 had a time of 3:12 seconds.

MSI GS66 Stealth Overheating Solutions

Every gaming laptop manufacturer is continuously battling the war against overheating components that cause your powerful laptop to be throttled. Microsoft’s answer is Cooler Boost. Three 0.004-inch fan blades make it the world’s tiniest sharp-edged fan design with seven heat pipes.

MSI GS66 Stealth Software and Warranty

MSI’s Dragon Center is a one-stop shop for all of their gamer-centric utilities. Here, you’ll find Steel Series Engine 3, but you can also monitor system diagnostics and perform light maintenance, as well. The Windows Key, camera, and Crosshair display can also be enabled or disabled.

MSI GE66 Raider physical review

MSI GE66 Raider

MSI GS66 Stealth vs. MSI GE66 Raider, Even though they aren’t completely new designs, the GE66 and GS66 Stealth have been reworked for 2020. The GE66 Raider, which replaces the GE65 Raider from last year, features several new features and enhancements, both on the outside and inside. The most noticeable modifications include the removal of the red-striped ridges from the display lid, which now has a completely smooth surface. If you don’t like the gamer look, this is good news. Colors have been removed from MSI’s Shield logo so that it fits in better with the dark silver surface.

MSI GE66 Raider’s design

When compared to the usual gaming clamshell, how can a laptop manage to look more adult and wild? How can you make a nice and classy chassis with a gorgeous RGB bar? In addition to the GE66 Raider, there are several other laptops with colorful LEDs on the bottom. An LED light bar covers three sides of the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 G732. The GE66 Raider, on the other hand, does it best. Bold light bar and beveled glass enclosure give the spacey atmosphere that gets interstellar with the appropriate color combination.

Performance of the MSI GE66 Raider Gaming

Our review model of the GE66 Raider quickly hit 60 frames per second (fps) in most games using an RTX 2080 Super Max-Q graphics card. I had a lot of fun playing Battlefield V at ultra settings with fps in the 80-90 range. The frame rate would drop to around 73-76 frames per second during the most intense confrontations, and it might rise to as high as 130 frames per second while crawling over grass. After I added ray tracing to the mix, frame rates remained in the 70-80 fps range, peaking at 99 fps during peaceful moments and dipping into the low 70s during heavy combat.

Productivity of the MSI GE66 Raider

With eight CPU cores and 16 threads, the GE66 includes 32GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD in the configuration we tested. With that much power, the laptop was able to operate 22 Chrome tabs, including one that was playing Netflix and Slack. With a 1-3 second delay, I was able to watch one episode of Netflix without interruptions. While surfing through my many browser tabs, I didn’t notice any noticeable delays.

MSI GE66 Raider Display

The GE66 Raider’s screen has a 300 Hz refresh rate and a 3ms response time. Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 G732 and the 300 Hz Razor Blade Pro 17 (2020) are two other gaming laptops with ridiculously high refresh rates.

Touchpad and Keyboard of MSI GE66 Raider

The GE66 Raider’s slim design makes it ideal for gaming, but the lack of a large keyboard is a deal breaker for me. According to MSI, the left Ctrl key, in particular, has been increased in size. Other than that, there are some navigational keys packed into the right column and arrow keys that aren’t offset enough to be easily located. This results in keys that are close together and flat, making it easier for the fingertips to accidently slip across other keys. In addition, there are a few odd choices, like the monstrosity of the left FN and Ctrl keys being jammed into one area

Raider Audio by MSI GE66

It’s more natural for the MSI GE66 Raider’s two 2W speakers to be located on either side of the deck, rather than under the laptop, where muffled sound is more likely. A branding on the deck will remind you that they’re Dynaudio brand, and MSI claims they support up to 192 KHz sampling rate, 24-bit Hi-res audio and 122 dB of dynamic range.

Upgradeability of the MSI GE66 Raider

The GE66 Raider’s lid may be removed after removing 11 Phillips head screws and using some elbow grease. I was able to install an M.2 SSD by removing an additional Philips head screw, and I was able to increase the RAM to 64GB (I had two 16GB sticks). The Wi-Fi card can also be removed by unscrewing it.

GE66 Raider 15-inch Laptop Battery

MSI gave the GE66 Raider a 99WHr battery, which is the maximum size allowed in a laptop, according to a company rep. If you plan on using the GE66 Raider for a long period of time, you’ll still need to bring the charger with you.

Powerful Gaming Graphics Card at the Price of One

The GE66 Raider, like many other gaming laptops, can get quite warm. On a regular basis, even with the fans set to maximum, I would notice the keyboard getting warm. The GE66 Raider’s fans, despite their diminutive size, are capable of producing noise levels comparable to those of a normal gaming laptop while operating at full power.

Raider Webcam from MSI GE66

Thanks to the GE66 Raider’s 1080p (at 30 frames per second) webcam, most laptop webcams today are just 720p. The better the resolution, the more vital it is as video calls become more commonplace. Since Asus recently removed the webcam from many of its gaming laptops, we appreciate MSI’s move in this direction.

Additional Software and Warranty for the MSI GE66 Raider

Your PC’s CPU, GPU, hard drive, memory, and solid-state drive (SSD) are all well-represented in MSI Dragon Center. Fan speeds, temperature readings, and how much room is left are all available. It’s also here where you may change the fan intensity from Extreme Performance to Silent. And if you have MSI’s Mystic Light RGB-enabled components or peripherals, you can sync effects.

GS66 Stealth from MSI

MSI GS66 Stealth vs. MSI GE66 Raider: If you are looking for a dedicated graphics card but don’t want to break the bank, the MSI GS66 Stealth is an excellent choice. While it’s on the more expensive end of the price spectrum, it’s still fairly cheap. MSI GS66 Stealth vs. MSI GE66 Raider

For those who don’t want to spend a lot of money but still want a good gaming experience, this is an excellent alternative to the multi-GPU graphics cards (which require two power supply and a larger laptop).

Working professionals and those in need of a desk at a reasonable price will appreciate it as well. The GS66 has 32GB of RAM; however it can be expanded to 64GB. Powerful enough to handle video rendering, the i7 10750H processor is capable.

Using this laptop in front of clients is also a good idea because of its metal chassis, which gives it a sense of stability.

In terms of performance, the MSI GS66 Stealth is an outstanding piece of hardware. Despite its flaws, the laptop remains a viable alternative for a budget-conscious gamer searching for a powerful machine.

Powered by an Intel Core i7-10750H 2.6 – 5.0GHz processor with 12MB of cache, 32GB of DDR4 2666MHz RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q 8G GDDR6 video card with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, the MSI GS66 Stealth is an economical gaming laptop.

A 512GB NVMe SSD and a 1TB HDD with M.2 docking bay are included in the storage options. The system has two Dynaudio speakers for audio as well as a per-key RGB keyboard with anti-ghosting keys.

It features a quieter fan than other laptops because to its efficient cooling technology. Its outstanding performance (particularly in video rendering), color accuracy, build quality, and respectable battery life are just a few of its many strong aspects (around 4 hours).

GE66 Raider from MSI

As a desktop computer, the MSI Ge66 Raider may be used by both professional gamers and students alike.

In addition to being able to play games and watch movies, it may also be used for rendering and video editing. The sturdy construction ensures that it can withstand long-term use. Having a large number of powerful components means that it is capable of handling any big workload.

The 15.6-inch FHD display of the MSI GE66 Raider is anti-glare and has a broad viewing angle. NVIDIA GeForce RTX2070 8G GDDR6 and 240Hz 3ms are also included.

Using a Dynaudio Speaker with Passive Radiator*2, the laptop’s sound can be enjoyed. Anti-ghosting keys can be used to type on the keyboard.

Final Verdict

If you’re on a tight budget, I’d prefer the MSI GE66 Raider over the MSI GE66. Even so, MSI GS66 Stealth is a better option for gamers who don’t mind spending a little extra cash, as it has more power for gaming and other duties.
